Conference Women’ s Museum Meran/o (Italy)

20.03.2014 She-Culture-Meeting

Sexism is not a joke – Gender Politics and Women’s Museums

The starting point of this seminar is the publishing of the new book of the women’s museum Meran in cooperation with Elke Krasny (Curator/ Vienna, Austria)): „Women: Curatorial Politics in feminism, education, history and art.” Initiating a dialogue between the network of women’s museums and feminist practices in curating, this volume gathers different perspectives from art historians, artists, curators, educators, historians, human rights activists, museum directors, researchers, scholars, and theorists.

Occasion of this conference is the participation of the women’s museum Meran in the EU-Project “she culture”. Other participants in the EU-Projects are women’s museums in Denmark, Norway, Albania, Italy (Eccom Rom) and Spain (Interarts / La Bonne). The target of the project is to promote cultural cooperation projects, intercultural dialogues, cross-generational dialogues and social cohesion. The network of women’s museums in Europe has an important role in public. This is a place for meetings, communications and also a place to exchange your experiences. Women’s museums are an important place for an analysis from culture- and gender politics in their respective countries.

A part of this project is to realize an art-video from female artists in their respective countries. The theme is to exhibit the problem with gender specific toys.

The Women’s Museum Meran will invite interested public at the all-day conference „Sexism is not a joke – gender politics and women’s museums”. You can listen short lectures and be an active participant of all discussions.
